The Miami Herald reports that Patrick Snay, 69, the former headmaster of Gulliver Preparatory School, reached a settlement in 2011 tied to an age-discrimination complaint after the school decided not to renew his contract. The deal included $10,000 in back wages, $60,000 in attorneys’ fees and an $80,000 settlement to Snay, the report says.
Snay’s daughter then took to Facebook FB -1.88% and wrote to her 1,200 or so followers, which included students currently attending Gulliver:
“Mama and Papa Snay won the case against Gulliver. Gulliver is now officially paying for my vacation to Europe this summer. SUCK IT.”Word got back to the school’s attorneys, and they sent a letter to Snay, stating that he’d broken a confidentiality agreement, which said the settlement could not be discussed with anyone except his lawyers and advisers.
Snay filed a motion against the school and won. But the Third District Court of Appeal for the state of Florida reversed the lower court’s ruling last week, stating:
“Based on the clear and unambiguous language of the parties’ agreement and Snay’s testimony confirming his breach of its terms, we reverse the order entered below granting the Snays’ motion to enforce the agreement.”
